Kroger “5” Razors..

So I was at the store the other day shopping for some replacement blades for my Gillette Fusion razor, and I came across the Kroger brand “5” razors (which is supposed to be the comparable house brand product).  I was excited to find out that they were 1/3rd the cost of the Gillette, but after getting home and shaving, I now know why.  They are absolute crap.  I’ve got to shave at least twice for it to actually cut all of my hair, and even then leaves me far worse than the Gillette brand.

Just a heads up to anyone out there shopping.  They’re MUCH cheaper, but that’s for a reason.

Kids these days..

There have been a few things weighing on my mind recently.  It seems that kids these days are getting lazier and lazier.  Perhaps lazy isn’t the correct word for it;  Perhaps a better word woud be disconnected.  Gone are the days when kids would just go outside and play.  Passed is the time where people would just call another person to have a conversation with them.

It seems like the younger generation would rather stay inside and play video games than go outside and get some exercise or enjoy nature.  Is camping a thing of the past?  Does anyone actually fish anymore, or does everyone just play Bass Pro 2012?  I certainly enjoy a good video game every now and then, I’ve even been known to play them on a daily basis, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy getting outside and enjoying some fresh air.  Unplugging every so often can be a great thing.

People texting all the time is another one of my pet peeves.  Don’t get me wrong, I see the value in a quick text saying “I’ll be home late for dinner” or “Want to hang out later tonight”, but I personally feel that if the current trend continues (of people standing around in a circle with their heads down, texting each other instead of interacting face to face), we’ll all one day end up living in a Wall-e-esque society where nobody actually knows how to communicate face to face anymore.

The last thing I’ve got to rant about is the complete lack of discipline and work ethic I see in kids these days.  While I’m not a parent, and therefor I have no real right to talk on the matter, I feel that the above issues are caused by a general lack of discipline.  Perhaps it’s because today’s new parents grew up in a time where it was alright to hit your kids (to an extent), and they are now saying something to the effect of “well I won’t do that to MY kids”.  I don’t feel like there’s a right or a wrong way to raise kids, but it’s important for children to fear and respect their elders.  Without respect, the whole system breaks down.  Kids disobey their parents, and then feel like they’re entitled to everything.  They get lazy, and don’t truly learn to work.  Then we end up with a thousand groups of lazy idiots, picketing and claiming to be the 99% and feeling like they deserve things like ‘school loan forgiveness’ and ‘higher pay for their entry level positions’.  Ridiculous.

Oh well, what I’ve got to say doesn’t really mean or count for anything, but sometimes you’ve just got to rant.

Scary Stuff – Getting ready to buy another home

I’ve finally got everything in place to start house shopping again.  I’ve got to admit, it’s a little intimidating.  While I feel like I shouldn’t have any issues, it’s always a little scary going in to apply for a mortgage, signing a billion papers, putting offers on houses, etc.

Either way, this is the beginning of my whole ‘investment property’ idea, so wish me luck!

Investment Property Planning in Nevada

If anyone plans on getting an investment property, here is what I’ve learned so far.  Please keep in mind that this is in our current 2012 economic environment, in Las Vegas NV.  Things might be different where you are, so talk to a local professional.  I am also no expert in any of this, I’m learning it as I go along, so I’ll probably do more wrong than right.

In order to be financially ready for an investment property, you will need the following things.

  • 6 months rent + hoa for your current properties in your bank + documentation on where that money came from (so don’t plan on getting it temporarily from your friends).
  • Down Payment for new property (3.75 if you’re going to move into it with an FHA loan, 20% otherwise).
  • Escrow Cash (currently about 1000 bucks).

I just learned this today and it’s set me back a couple months.. Oh well.. you live and you learn!

Quick Update

I got my wheels and tires mounted and balanced today.  I’m really happy with the slight stretch on the tires, and how they look.  They are also only about 1cm smaller in outer diameter than the existing tires so my speed’o will register a little higher than actual speed, but I’m fine with that.  I also got another water temp probe fitting, and some subframe spacers from PBM.

Rarity (1989 Nissan 240sx) 2012 02 11 (Parts Update)

Sooo it’s been a bit more than a week.  I’ve got the car titled, registered, and insured.  I also picked up some parts, and began stripping off the tint, and fixed a couple things.  I replaced the leaking fuel line that goes to the fuel filter, though I still need to fix the return line on the tank side.  I also replaced a missing bolt on the driveshaft.  I fixed the headlights and turn signals (though they still don’t go up on their own yet), and some of the interior wiring.  I’ve got some more parts on their way and they should arrive this week.  When they do, I’ll have a big crazy part party and throw all this stuff on..

Updates and Scope of Work

Alright, so I’ve recently purchase a TON of parts to get this car ready to work for me a as a daily.  Here is the scope of work (SOW) for the next big run of parts.

  1. Install new bolt on drive shaft
  2. Drive to Jonny’s
  3. Pull drive shaft and install new carrier bearing
  4. Install missing tranny bolts
  5. Install new tranny mount
  6. Install trunk mount battery box
  7. Replace leaky fuel line
  8. Drive to exhaust shop and have them build me a custom exhaust
  9. Mount and balance wheels/tires

I think this will be a Friday/Saturday project.  If I drop the car off early Saturday morning at the exhaust shop, they should be done with it by Saturday afternoon.

The next big SOW will probably be the following day, or weekend, and will include:

  1. Pull off old wheels/tires
  2. Pull off shocks/springs
  3. Pull off RUCAs/Tie Rods/Torsion Rods/TC Rods
  4. Install new RUCAs/Tie Rods/Torsion Rods/TC Rods
  5. Install new coilovers
  6. Install new wheels
  7. Check fitment
  8. Adjust height/roll fenders/etc

I think once I complete all of this stuff, the car will make a GREAT daily.  I’ll still have to do some little things like new tint (as I’ve almost got all the old stuff removed), new seats, new steering wheel, new carpet, switch panel, and new stereo system (this is a daily, deal with it).  Once I finish that stuff, it should be good to go for a while until I KA-T it.
